DeBaptiste Funeral Homes, Inc. - West Chester

As the mid-day sun was shinning bright the soul of our beloved mother, sister, cousin and friend, was preparing to rise and take flight, upon angelic wings at the beckoning of her most precious Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Annie Ruth Maxwell affectionately known by the name “Ann”, was born on March 17, 1947 in Galax, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Ellis Maxwell and the late Elizabeth B. Blair Maxwell. Ann received her formal education at Kennett High School and graduated with the class of 1965. While attending high school she was an avid athlete and participated in field hockey and girls’ basketball.

Upon completing high school, she attended the Chester County Nursing School in Chester, Pa. There she received her degree as a licensed practical nurse in 1967. Afterwards, she obtained a nursing position at the Chester County Hospital. Ann worked in the maternity ward and was dedicated to her chosen career. She often spoke about the mothers and their newborn babies with such compassion. Ann stayed dedicated to the nursing profession until her health prevented her from working. She was a woman of boundless energy and talents.

Ann looked forward to and enjoyed every chance to travel and go shopping. She especially loved to travel to tropical islands and made certain there were many opportunities to do so. Ann enjoyed the finer things in life. She was very generous when it came to helping others. She had a style all her own and passed down her love of fashion to her daughter Janessa. Ann was an extraordinary cook and enjoyed entertaining and preparing meals for her family and friends in her home.

Annie met the companion of a life time, Allie Murphy, and together they were blessed with one daughter, Janessa. Her daughter became the center of her life and bought her such joy and happiness. After a lengthy illness, Annie Ruth Maxwell, at the age of 72, passed away at the Chester County Pocopson home on Thursday, October 24, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jamma Lee Bladen, a brother-in-law Gilbert W. Bladen and a nephew Rique S. Bladen.

Her transition leaves a major void in her family. However, wonderful and cherished memories remain with her loving daughter Janessa Karaney Maxwell-Murphy of Los Angeles, California, Allie Murphy, devoted companion of Frazer, Pennsylvania, sister Vanessa Maxwell-Brooks (Phillip) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Niece Rustin C. Daugherty of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, nephew Cameron M. Brooks of Virginia Beach, Virginia, her step-mother, Lena Rose Maxwell of Galax, Virginia and devoted cousin Gloria Sharp of Newark, Delaware; two great nephews, one aunt, a host of relatives and friends to share her memory.

We cherish the memory of one of God’s brightest stars that shone so brilliantly in our midst here on earth. We now rejoice that this same bright star has been joined with the enteral Glory of God, our Father to shine forever in His presence.
